The Summer Educational and Recreational Programme for Children, Youth and Women (EduCamp II) took part in the signing ceremony for contracting the grant beneficiaries of the Participatory Development Programme in Urban Areas (PDP). The event took place on July 7, 2014 in Cairo. EduCamp II was presented during the event as one of the 17 selected projects that will be funded by the European Union, in collaboration with the PDP of the Deutsche Gesellschaft fuer Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ; German International Cooperation Agency).
The focus of the program lies in improving services in informal areas, enhancing employability and promoting income generating activities in the respective areas. EduCamp II was chosen among more than 90 applicants to help informal areas in Egypt overcome many of their problems through educational and capacity development activities. The chosen pilot region of EduCamp II is El Warraq, where educational and recreational services will be enhanced while tackling key real community problems on the ground. The signing ceremony marks the beginning of EduCamp II, which aims to successfully implement the principles of education for sustainable development through adaptation of the results achieved in the EduCamp project.
